Purnananda Burhagohain

d. 1817 · 19th century

Purnananda Burhagohain was chief minister (Burhagohain) of the Ahom kingdom of Assam from 1784 to 1817 and its effective ruler for much of that time. He suppressed the last Moamoria resistance, restored much of the state after the rebellion and installed the kings Kamaleswar Singha and Chandrakanta Singha. The appeal of his rivals to the Burmese court led to the invasions that ended Ahom independence.
