Ramon I of Pallars and Ribagorza

d. c. 920 · 10th century

Ramon I was the first independent count of Pallars and Ribagorza in the Pyrenees of north-eastern Iberia. Around 872 he broke away from the counts of Toulouse and made the two mountain counties a hereditary lordship of his own. He fought Muslim neighbours and married into the Banu Qasi. After his death his sons divided the counties, separating Pallars and Ribagorza.
