Pallars

Pallars is a historic region of the Catalan Pyrenees around the valley of the Noguera Pallaresa river. Once a district of the Frankish county of Toulouse, it became a hereditary county under Ramon I around 872 and was divided in 1011 into Pallars Jussà and Pallars Sobirà. The names survive in two modern Catalan districts with their capitals at Tremp and Sort.
