Reform Act 1832
The Reform Act 1832, known as the Great Reform Act, reformed the electoral system of England and Wales. Passed by Earl Grey's Whig government after a political crisis and resistance from the House of Lords, it abolished many rotten and pocket boroughs, gave seats to growing industrial towns and extended the vote to much of the propertied middle class.
