Ribe
Ribe is a town in south-west Jutland, regarded as the oldest town in Denmark. It began as a trading place in the early eighth century, linked to Frisia and the North Sea trade, and Ansgar built one of the first churches in Scandinavia there around 860. It became a bishopric, and its Romanesque cathedral dates from the twelfth century. It declined after the Middle Ages.
