Rudbar of Alamut

Also known as Rudbar (Alamut)

Rudbar was a mountain district of northern Iran in the valley of the Shahrud and its tributary the Alamut river, in the highlands of Daylam. It was the centre of the Justanid kings, one of whom is said to have built the castle of Alamut in the 9th century. From 1090 it formed the core of the Nizari Ismaili state, until the Mongols took its castles in 1256.
