Russo-Turkish War (1828–1829)

1828–1829 · 19th century

The Russo-Turkish War of 1828–1829 was fought between the Russian Empire and the Ottoman Empire, provoked partly by the Greek War of Independence. Russian armies crossed the Balkan mountains and took Adrianople in August 1829, while in the Caucasus they took Kars and Erzurum. The Treaty of Adrianople gave Russia the Danube delta and forced the Ottomans to accept Greek autonomy.
