Russo-Turkish War (1877–1878)
The Russo-Turkish War of 1877–1878 was fought between the Russian Empire and the Ottoman Empire, following uprisings among the Balkan Christian peoples. Russia's victory led to the Treaty of San Stefano and then the Congress of Berlin in 1878, which recognised the independence of Serbia, Montenegro and Romania. Accounts of the Ottoman Empire treat the war as a major step in the loss of Ottoman territory in the Balkans.
