Saint Thomas Christians

Also known as Nasrani

The Saint Thomas Christians are the ancient Christian community of Kerala, who trace their origin to the apostle Thomas and long used the East Syriac liturgy, which is why they are often called Syrian Christians. Their churches held privileges from local rulers, recorded in the Tharisapalli copper plates of 849 for the church at Kollam, and they were prominent in the pepper trade.
