San'yō region

The San'yō region is the part of western Honshu, Japan, facing the Seto Inland Sea, comprising today's Okayama and Hiroshima prefectures and the south of Yamaguchi. Its name means 'the sunny side of the mountains', in contrast to the San'in region. The San'yōdō highway ran through it, and in the Sengoku period it was contested by the Ōuchi, Amago and Mōri clans.
