San'in region
The San'in region is the part of western Honshu, Japan, facing the Sea of Japan, comprising today's Tottori and Shimane prefectures and the north of Yamaguchi. Its name, 'the shady side of the mountains', contrasts it with the San'yō region on the Inland Sea. In the Sengoku period it was dominated first by the Amago and then by the Mōri clans.
