São Cucufate
São Cucufate is the site of a large Roman villa near Vila de Frades, in the Vidigueira municipality of the Alentejo in southern Portugal. Founded in the 1st century CE and rebuilt on a grand scale in the 4th century, its two-storey residence with vaulted halls survives to an unusual height. In the Middle Ages part of it was used by a monastery dedicated to Saint Cucufas, from whom the site takes its name.
