Scone, Scotland
Scone, near Perth in central Scotland, was the inauguration place of the kings of Scots, an important royal centre of the Pictish and Gaelic kings from at least the 9th century. Kings were enthroned on the Moot Hill on the Stone of Scone, which Edward I of England took to Westminster in 1296; it was returned to Scotland in 1996. An Augustinian abbey stood there until the Reformation.
