Sikh Confederacy

Also known as Sikh confederacies

The Sikh Confederacy refers to the group of Sikh misls, or confederate clans, that governed the Punjab after the decline of Mughal authority in the eighteenth century. Ranjit Singh, born into the Sukerchakia misl, unified them into the Sikh Empire. Accounts of the Maratha Empire mention the Sikh confederacies among the powers with which the Marathas dealt.
