Socotra
Socotra is an island in the Indian Ocean, off the Horn of Africa, belonging to Yemen. Its long isolation produced a unique flora, including the dragon's blood tree, and the archipelago became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2008. Known to ancient traders for incense and aloes, it was held by the Portuguese from 1507 to 1511 and ruled by the Mahra sultans until 1967.
