Sture family
The Sture family was a Swedish noble family whose members governed Sweden as regents during the late Kalmar Union. Sten Sture the Elder defeated the Danish king Christian I at Brunkeberg in 1471, and Svante Nilsson and Sten Sture the Younger continued to resist Danish kings until 1520. The family's leadership prepared the way for Swedish independence under Gustav Vasa.
