1971– · 20th century

The Sudan National Museum in Khartoum, opened in 1971, is the largest museum in Sudan. Its collections span Sudanese history from prehistory through the kingdoms of Kerma and Kush to the Christian Nubian kingdoms, including wall paintings from Faras cathedral. Its garden holds temples rescued from Lower Nubia before the flooding of Lake Nasser, such as those of Buhen and Semna.
