r. 1807–1819 · 19th century · Also known as Sulaiman dan Abahama

Sulaimanu was the first Fulani emir of Kano in northern Nigeria, ruling from 1807 to 1819. A scholar and a flagbearer of Usman dan Fodio, he was chosen to lead Kano after the jihadists overthrew its last Hausa king, Muhammad Alwali. He governed as a vassal of the Sokoto Caliphate and was succeeded by Ibrahim Dabo, founder of the dynasty that still rules Kano.
