Sydney, Nova Scotia
Sydney is the main town of Cape Breton Island in Nova Scotia, Canada. It was founded in 1785 by Joseph Frederick Wallet DesBarres as the capital of the separate colony of Cape Breton, which was merged into Nova Scotia in 1820. Nearby coal mines and, from the early 1900s, a large steel plant made it an industrial centre until their decline in the late 20th century.
