Syro-Ephraimite War

c. 735–732 BCE · 8th century BCE

The Syro-Ephraimite War was a conflict of about 735–732 BCE in which Rezin of Aram-Damascus and Pekah of Israel, or Ephraim, attacked Judah after its king Ahaz refused to join their alliance against Assyria. Ahaz appealed to Tiglath-pileser III, who took Damascus, annexed much of Israel's territory and made Judah an Assyrian vassal. The crisis forms the background to prophecies in the Book of Isaiah.
