Syros
Syros is a Greek island in the Cyclades in the Aegean Sea. Its town, Ermoupoli, founded by refugees from Chios and Psara during the War of Independence, was the leading port and commercial centre of Greece in the mid-nineteenth century, with shipyards and textile mills. It is the administrative capital of the Cyclades, and the island has a long-established Catholic community.
