Tashfin ibn Ali

d. 1145 · 12th century

Tashfin ibn Ali was emir of the Almoravid Empire from 1143 to 1145, son of Ali ibn Yusuf. Earlier governor in al-Andalus, where he campaigned against the Christian kingdoms, he came to the throne as the Almohads under Abd al-Mu'min were overrunning Morocco. Besieged at Oran, he died in 1145 when his horse fell from a cliff as he tried to escape, and Marrakesh fell to the Almohads two years later.
