Tefnakht

8th century BCE · 8th century BCE · Also known as Tefnakht I

Tefnakht was a Libyan chief of Sais in the western Nile Delta who, in the later 8th century BCE, led a coalition of Delta and Middle Egyptian rulers and pushed south. The Kushite king Piye defeated the coalition around 728 BCE, and Tefnakht submitted by oath without meeting him in person. He is usually regarded as the founder of the Twenty-fourth Dynasty of Egypt.
