Tiridates III of Armenia

d. c. 330 · 4th century · Also known as Tiridates the Great

Tiridates III was Arsacid king of Armenia from the late 3rd century until about 330, restored with Roman support after a period of Sasanian rule. Converted by Gregory the Illuminator, he made Christianity the state religion of Armenia in about 301, traditionally the first kingdom to do so, and backed the founding of the cathedral of Etchmiadzin.
