Treaty of Georgievsk

1783 · 18th century

The Treaty of Georgievsk was signed on 24 July 1783 between the Russian Empire and Erekle II of Kartli-Kakheti. Erekle renounced Persian overlordship and accepted a Russian protectorate, while Russia guaranteed his kingdom's territory and the Bagrationi dynasty. Russia failed to defend Georgia when Persia invaded in 1795, and in 1801 it annexed the kingdom outright.
