Treaty of Tafna
The Treaty of Tafna was signed on 30 May 1837 near the Tafna river between Emir Abdelkader and General Thomas-Robert Bugeaud. France recognised Abdelkader's authority over most of western and central Algeria while keeping Oran, Algiers and their hinterlands, which freed French troops to attack Constantine. Disputes over the boundary led Abdelkader to resume the war in 1839.
