Turtkul

Also known as Petro-Aleksandrovsk

Turtkul is a town on the right bank of the Amu Darya in Karakalpakstan, Uzbekistan. Founded as the Russian fort of Petro-Aleksandrovsk after the conquest of Khiva in 1873, it was the capital of the Karakalpak autonomous region until 1939, when erosion by the river and the growth of Nukus led to the transfer of the capital.
