Union of Krewo

1385 · 14th century

The Union of Krewo was an agreement of 1385 under which Grand Duke Jogaila of Lithuania agreed to accept Catholic Christianity and marry Queen Jadwiga of Poland, becoming King of Poland. It created a personal union between Poland and Lithuania. Accounts of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth treat it as the starting point of the union that culminated in the Commonwealth.
