Vegesack

Vegesack is a district of Bremen on the Weser, about 20 kilometres downstream from the city centre. Its harbour, built by Bremen in 1619–1623 because silting kept larger ships from reaching the city, is regarded as one of the oldest artificial harbours in Germany. It was later the home of the Bremer Vulkan shipyard and became part of Bremen in 1939.
