Viracocha Inca

d. c. 1438 · 15th century

Viracocha Inca was the eighth ruler of the Kingdom of Cusco in Inca tradition. He extended Cusco's power over neighbouring valleys and allied with the Lupaca of Lake Titicaca. When the Chanka attacked Cusco, he is said to have fled, leaving his son Pachacuti to defend the city and seize the throne, beginning the Inca Empire.
