War of Saint Sabas

1256–1270 · 13th century

The War of Saint Sabas was a conflict between the Italian maritime republics of Genoa and Venice, fought mainly in and around Acre from 1256 to 1258, with fighting elsewhere until 1270. It began over property belonging to the monastery of Saint Sabas and drew the barons and military orders of the Kingdom of Jerusalem in on opposite sides. It weakened the crusader states on the eve of the Mamluk advance.
