War of the Austrian Succession
The War of the Austrian Succession was a European war fought from 1740 to 1748 over Maria Theresa's right to inherit the Habsburg lands after the death of Emperor Charles VI. Prussia under Frederick the Great seized most of Silesia, and the Bavarian elector Charles Albert was elected Emperor Charles VII in 1742. The Treaty of Aix-la-Chapelle in 1748 confirmed Maria Theresa's succession but left Silesia to Prussia.
