Wassoulou
Wassoulou is a savanna region on the borders of southern Mali, north-eastern Guinea and north-western Côte d'Ivoire, around the upper Sankarani River. Its people, largely of Fula origin but speaking the Maninka language, gave their name to the Wassoulou Empire founded by Samori Ture in the late 19th century. The region is also known for its musical tradition, the source of Wassoulou music.
