Western Chalukya Empire

973–1189 · 10th century · Also known as Kalyani Chalukyas, Later Chalukyas

The Western Chalukya Empire was a dynasty that ruled much of the western Deccan of India from 973 to 1189, founded by Tailapa II after the fall of the Rashtrakutas and governing from Kalyani. It fought long wars with the Cholas, and under Vikramaditya VI it reached its height. Its feudatories, among them the Hoysalas, Seuna Yadavas and Kakatiyas, divided its lands when it collapsed.
