c. 2500–1500 BCE · 26th century BCE

The Western Deffufa is a massive mud-brick structure at Kerma in northern Sudan, the main temple of the Kerma kingdom. Built and enlarged over many centuries, it still stands about 18 metres high. It was surrounded by workshops and chapels and is one of the oldest and largest mud-brick buildings in Africa.
