Western Europe
Western Europe is the western part of the European continent. The Carolingian Empire unified much of it under Charlemagne around 800 CE. Accounts of the Carolingian Empire describe Carolingian governance as the most ambitious administrative project in Western Europe since the fall of the Western Roman Empire, and its cultural and political legacy shaped the region for centuries.
