Yalangtush Bahadur

1576–1656 · 17th century · Also known as Yalangtush Bi

Yalangtush Bahadur was an Uzbek emir of the Alchin tribe who governed Samarkand for the Ashtarkhanid khans of Bukhara in the first half of the seventeenth century. A leading military commander of the khanate, he is said to have helped the Kazakh khan Jahangir against the Dzungars in 1643. He built the Sher-Dor and Tilya-Kori madrasas, which with the older Ulugh Beg madrasa frame the Registan in Samarkand.
