Amirids

c. 978–1009 · 10th century · Also known as Amirid dynasty

The Amirids were the family of al-Mansur (Almanzor), the chief minister who ruled the Caliphate of Córdoba in the name of Hisham II from the 970s. His sons Abd al-Malik al-Muzaffar and Abd al-Rahman Sanchuelo succeeded him until Sanchuelo's fall in 1009 set off the civil war that destroyed the caliphate. Their freedmen and a grandson of al-Mansur then founded taifas in eastern al-Andalus, including Valencia, Dénia, Tortosa and Almería.
