Ares
Ares was the Greek god of war, a son of Zeus and Hera, identified by the Romans with Mars. Greek writers often placed his home in Thrace, and Herodotus reported that the Thracians worshipped gods he equated with Ares, Dionysus and Artemis. Unlike Athena, he embodied the violence and destruction of battle and was less honoured in cult than most of the Olympian gods.
