Asherah

Asherah was a mother goddess of the ancient Levant, known from Ugaritic texts as the consort of the god El. Hebrew inscriptions of the 8th century BCE from Kuntillet Ajrud and Khirbet el-Qom invoke Yahweh and his Asherah, suggesting that many Israelites and Judahites worshipped her alongside Yahweh. The Bible condemns her cult and its wooden poles, and reforming kings such as Josiah removed them from the temple.
