Avaldsnes
Avaldsnes is a historic site on the island of Karmøy in western Norway, overlooking the Karmsund strait. Its great burial mounds and ship burials show that powerful kings controlled the shipping lane there from the Iron Age, and the sagas make it a royal seat of Harald Fairhair. Its stone church of St Olaf dates from about 1250.
