Baba Beg

19th century · 19th century

Baba Beg was one of the beks of the Kenagas Uzbek tribe who ruled the oasis of Shahrisabz in the mid-19th century, together with Jura Beg. They resisted the Manghit emirs of Bukhara and kept Shahrisabz effectively independent. In 1870 Russian forces stormed Shahrisabz and Kitab, the beks fled, and the oasis was handed to the Emirate of Bukhara.
