Kashkadarya
The Kashkadarya is a river in southern Uzbekistan that rises in the Pamir-Alay mountains and flows west past Shahrisabz and Qarshi into the desert. Its fertile oases, ancient Sogdian lands, gave their name to the Qashqadaryo region of Uzbekistan. Shahrisabz, the old city of Kesh and birthplace of Timur, lies in its upper valley.
