Banu Umayya
The Banu Umayya was a powerful clan of the Quraysh tribe of Mecca. The third caliph, Uthman, belonged to it, and his favouring of kinsmen in appointments caused discontent that contributed to the Rashidun Caliphate's crisis. A member of the clan, Mu'awiya, founded the Umayyad Caliphate in 661.
