Companions of the Prophet

Also known as Sahaba

The Companions of the Prophet, in Arabic sahaba, are the people who knew or saw the Prophet Muhammad and believed in him. They include the first caliphs, his family and the early converts of Mecca and Medina, and their reports form the basis of the hadith. Sunni Islam regards them collectively as trustworthy, while Shia Islam judges them individually.
