Curse of Agade

Also known as The Cursing of Akkad

The Curse of Agade is a Sumerian literary composition, probably of the late 3rd millennium BCE, explaining the fall of the city of Akkad. It tells how King Naram-Sin offended the god Enlil by destroying his temple at Nippur, and how Enlil sent the Gutians from the mountains to devastate the land as punishment. It is an early example of history interpreted as divine retribution.
