Danishmendids

c. 1075–1178 · 11th century · Also known as Danishmendid dynasty, Danishmendid emirate

The Danishmendids were a Turkmen dynasty that ruled north-central and north-eastern Anatolia, from cities such as Sivas, Tokat, Niksar and Malatya, from the late eleventh century. Founded by Danishmend Gazi, they captured Bohemond of Antioch in 1100 and were at first stronger than the Seljuks of Rum. They were weakened by internal divisions and annexed by Kilij Arslan II by 1178.
