Fayzabad, Badakhshan

Also known as Faizabad (Afghanistan)

Fayzabad is a town in north-eastern Afghanistan, the capital of Badakhshan province, on the Kokcha river in the foothills of the Hindu Kush. From the 17th century it was the seat of the mirs who ruled Badakhshan, and it has long been the main market of the province, on routes towards the Pamirs, Chitral and Kashgar.
