Tajiks

The Tajiks are a Persian-speaking people of Central Asia, living mainly in Tajikistan, Afghanistan and Uzbekistan. They descend largely from the Iranian population of Bactria and Sogdiana, and cities such as Bukhara and Samarkand were centres of their culture. The Soviet borders drawn in the 1920s left many Tajiks outside the Tajik republic.
