Gorgan
Gorgan, historically Gurgan or Jurjan, is a city and region on the south-eastern shore of the Caspian Sea in northern Iran, the ancient Hyrcania. In the early Islamic period it was a prosperous province and the base of the Ziyarid dynasty, which contested it with the Buyids and Samanids. The nearby Gonbad-e Qabus, the tomb tower of the Ziyarid ruler Qabus, is a World Heritage Site.
